Singapore is known as having one of the freest, most innovative, competitive and business friendly economies globally. It has the political stability - consistently ranked as one of the least corrupt countries in the world - and economic strength to generate trade, investments and opportunity.
A global leader in several economic areas including being the third biggest oil refining centre, the largest oil-rig producer and a major hub for ship repair services. It’s the 14th largest exporter and the 15th largest importer, with the highest trade-to-GDP ratio. It is no surprise that its port is the busiest transshipment worldwide.
Along with the advanced infrastructure, a skilful and productive workforce and excellent corporate governance, Singapore really is a fantastic place to do business.
It is a superb place to visit, with excellent transportation – over 100 international airlines, 8000 weekly flights and Changi airport ranked 1st at the World Airport Awards – a growing arts and culture scene and dining and shopping as the national pastime, Singapore is a vibrant, exciting and cosmopolitan city.
THE LION CITY
The name Singapore derives from the Malay word ‘Singapura’, which means Lion City. Legend has it that Sang Nila Utama gave it this name after spotting a Lion on the island. However, there has never been another sighting of a lion and many believe it was actually a tiger that he spotted!
SINGAPORE WILL BE A GLOBAL INSURANCE HUB BY 2020.
This is the vision of the Monetary Authority of Singapore as outlined in a keynote address by its managing director, Mr Ravi Menon on 6 November 2013. He clearly articulated their vision for Singapore’s insurance industry to become global marketplace with the ability to accept not just regional, but global risks.
